Porlock lies at the foot of the infamous 1 in 4 Porlock Hill and is approximately 1 mile form the sea.
The village retains much of its olde worlde charm and character and thatched cottages with tall chimneys (a feature of
West Somerset) can be seen in the winding high street. There is an excellent range of shops, restaurants and inns catering
for everyone's needs.
Exmoor is one of the smallest of our National Parks (265 square miles) but it consists
of some of the most beathtaking and unrivalled scenery in the country, with a superb mixture of dramatic coastline, rolling
moorland and beautiful secluded combes. There are 600 miles of rights of way over footpaths and bridleways and many
thousands of acres of open moorland on which public access is permitted.
Exmoor is the setting for Lorna Doone, the unforgettable love story set in an age when outlaws
roamed Exmoor's hills and is also noted for its variety of animal life, with its herds of wild deer, Exmoor
ponies, Buzzards and Kestrels. Facilities for fishing and horse riding are all nearby and in Minehead,
6 miles away, there is an 18 hole golf course.
The outstanding scenery, attractive villages, friendly people and interesting wildlife all make Porlock an ideal place
for a holiday and some quiet relaxation.
